PhotoLog : Miwa Togashi Exhibition “日々徒然”(Daily Idleness)

12th Mar.
Went to a few exhibitions in Tokyo, Miwa Togashi exhibition “日々徒然”, Masatoshi Nakamura exhibition in Futago-Tamagawa, and Tota Kikuchi exhibition “白亜紀の海 2”.
Mr. Kikuchi is my teacher, in my school days, and many reviews of his exhibition would be written, so I might have to start writing about my junior fellow, Miwa Togashi’s exhibition.

I have looked at her pictures for 6 years, and this time around she could finally hold the first exhibition. She gazes “Light”, not sunshine, electric machines, or something like those concrete, but she always try grasping “Light” overflowing around her and her husband; Lifetime.
There might not be an actual theme or theories, just she takes pictures of those scene ’cause she feels they’re beautiful. This kind of ways are very simple and the origin reasons which make us want to draw , paint, sing or write; Of course photographing.
These several years I’ve been keeping thinking why people started drawing. I might say it’s the impulsion. I wonder why people doing photograph or expressing something want to add any meaning or thought about society or something like those topics. Pictures might have been born without such things.

In this era, we’re surrounded too many things; buildings, plastics, glasses, doors, trees, air, cars, air pollution, water, sky, clouds, river, concrete banks, streets, people, trains, traffics, shops, furniture, cloth… We can’t raise everything around us. For us it’s so natural. But all of them(us) surround each other, and we’re surrounded “Light”.

I’ve heard there’s ambient light(包囲光) in the theory of affordance. If we close our eyes, we can feel light, and It’s not right that we always feel those “Light”s from only the luminous source, but from the air; between the sun and us.
But pictures, I mean both of paintings or drawings and photographs, can’t describe those “Light”, ’cause it’s not the object but spaces.
So we borrow something between and try to grasp them.

Photograph is always made from “Light”. From air, we have to put them into the screen(CCD), and call them “Photograph”. In this meaning, it’s the most primitive ways to grasp scene.
